Arrival & Accommodation

Pontresina

The fine enjoyment of the high Alps in the Upper Engadine: Pontresina

The Engadine, an approximately 80 km long valley in the canton of Graubünden, is known as a paradise for athletes and adventurers, a place of inspiration and tranquillity, a valley with genuine nature and full of cultural treasures. It is one of the highest inhabited valleys in Europe.

Roughly divided into two parts, the Engadine consists of the Upper Engadine and the Lower Engadine. The Upper Engadine captivates with several large, well-known skiing areas around St. Moritz (Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza) and breathtaking landscapes. The mountain village of Pontresina, the starting and finishing point of the Bernina Ultraks, lies at 1,805 metres in a side valley of the Upper Engadine. The world-famous Engadine mountain health resort is located at the foot of the Bernina massif and is thus surrounded by the two most famous peaks of the Engadine: Piz Palü and Piz Bernina. The latter, at 4,049 m, is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps. Pontresina offers predestined tranquillity as well as action and variety: thanks to its individual charm and unique nature, it is a destination like no other. The historic mountaineering village is a real treat on arrival: the charm of traditional Engadine houses and the elegance of large "Belle Epoque" hotels take visitors back in time.

In Pontresina, the eternal ice is literally in front of your hotel door. No wonder - the Engadine with its 173 glaciers is a landscape "on the rocks"! The glaciers surround the highest peaks of the Eastern Alps with the undisputed number one: the Morteratsch Glacier. It is seven kilometres long and thus the longest glacier in the Engadine.

Dolcefarniente: Haute cuisine, tranquillity and a taste of the high life

Gault Millau restaurants ensure plenty of tasty treats for gourmets, with numerous award-winning restaurants offering typical regional and Mediterranean specialities to be enjoyed in cosy, Swiss surroundings. Evenings of music and theatre evenings with notable artists at the Rondo Convention and Event Centre are well known, including far beyond the Engadine valley. Ideal for conferences and seminars in the off-peak season, the Rondo inspires people in the peak season with the very finest arts and culture events. A journey on the Bernina Express through the spectacular mountain arena of a UNESCO World Heritage Site is equally inspirational.

Whether you love nature, enjoy good food, climbing the highest peaks, mountain biking or relaxing in a spa – you’re certain to be able to experience the very finest pleasures in life in Pontresina.
