Bernina Glaciers 35
A glacier adventure at its finest!
«Bernina Glaciers 35»
The shorter of the two glacier routes covers a distance of just over 35 km against the spectacular glacier backdrop of Piz Bernina and Piz Palü. You will need to face the challenge of constantly changing terrain, as this route offers everything a trail runner could wish for.
Starting from Pontresina, the route takes you along the UNESCO World Heritage line of the Rhaetian Railway towards Morteratsch and deeper into the fascinating mountain world. Passing the Boval Hut, you will enjoy breathtaking views of Piz Bernina, Piz Palü, and the mighty glaciers. With the glittering world of ice still in your sights, it will soon be beneath your feet as the trail leads across the Morteratsch and Pers glaciers in a unique experience. Following high-alpine paths, the Diavolezza mountain station welcomes you at 3,003m with one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Alps—the incomparable panorama of the Bernina Massif.
From here, a long downhill through Val Bernina leads you step by step back into the valley. A varied return journey awaits you with flowy downhill trails and pleasantly runnable, flatter sections—a real chance to let your legs go. Along the way, new perspectives of the surrounding mountains and valleys constantly reveal themselves. A spectacular trail run that combines alpine challenges with varied running sections and unforgettable views of the Upper Engadin.

Highlights
Boval Hut
At almost 2,500m, you reach the first aid station at the Boval Hut after 10km. At the SAC refuge you can enjoy the first magnificent view of the surrounding high mountain landscape around the Piz Bernina and the Piz Palü as well as the glaciers to be crossed.
The Glaciers
After about 11km you will reach the Morteratsch glacier and shortly afterwards the Pers glacier. The crossing is a real highlight of the BGM and is only possible with spikes. The entire section is secured by local mountain guides and promises an extraordinary trail running experience.
Berghaus Diavolezza
The highest peak of the BGM awaits you right above the Berghaus Diavolezza at 3,000m in the middle of the “Festival Hall of the Alps”. From here you have a wonderful view of the Piz Bernina and the Piz Palü. The Diavolezza is easy to reach for all spectators by mountain railway.
